Dancing, playful, unseen eyes ablaze
They creep up close with arms outstretched,
Welcoming, inviting;
The tantalizing promise of camaraderie
From the biting darkness deep below
Wracked by sobs, blinded with tears
Relieved, grateful
She reaches out in acceptance
But the Shadows are Cruel-
Giggling, snickering, they slip away
After all,
They had only just been teasing
Time and again, her heart bleeds out
Crushed by the dream never truly fulfilled
And still she tries, time and again
To befriend the Shadows that will never leave
Yet, never begone will she wish Them to be
For never forgotten deep within
Is that Shadows only play
While somewhere nearby
Shines a light that hasn't ceased.
