when i am uninspired,
as i have felt for
weeks
i
dig into the familiar
pull of your
body heat and
the
bitter taste of
bottom-shelf whiskey
mixed with
early dew
that stays freckled
in your embraces

the hardness i attach myself to
may be void of green pastures
but
i thank every sunbeam
that
the smallest gesture
can help keep me
planted
when i cannot stay
awake.

our backs are crooked just the same.

i want to be able to stretch
straight up to the tops of buildings
and forget the constant ticking
of this goddamn clock.

this world is nothing
without fellow humans
holding onto its species

keep your hold on me, too
please,
until i can straighten my back a little
more comfortably
